The man had left the bike outside a store for just 17 seconds when a youth decided to strike in Dublin. He propped the cycle against a wall while he went into a shop, but security footage shows the opportunist thief jump onboard and attempt to get away.

Having none of it, the owner rushed toward the thief, and took him down in impressive style with a tackle. A post by Dublin bike store 360 Cycles on Instagram said: ‘How quick can a bike be robbed?? Less than 17 seconds based on this video.

‘One of our senior mechanics was very lucky to get away with about €200 worth of damage rather than losing his carbon racing bike. ‘This happened in Clontarf over the weekend and we would like to urge all bike owners to lock their bikes at all times even if you are just leaving it for under a minute.’
