Huge gas tanker explosion on motorway blamed on car driver speeding through crash scene

The shocking moment a gas tanker exploded on the side of a motorway was caught on film – but a car driver is being blamed for igniting the blaze rather than the lorry driver. A frantic passerby who desperately tried reversing out of the way took the footage as the road was taken over by flames.

The terrifying clip shows how close other vehicles came to getting caught up in the huge blaze in Beijing, China, yesterday morning.

A tanker transporting liquefied petroleum gas had crashed on the side of the Beijing-Harbin highway and some of the gas had leaked out onto the road.

It is not clear how, but the gas ignited causing an explosion of blames around the vehicle

In the dashcam video, two cars can be seen driving ahead of the vehicle which is filming. And while a white vehicle puts its hazard lights on when it spots the crash a blue car tries driving round and ends up going through the spill.

It appears to be this action that ignites the gas – and within seconds the car explodes.

At first it appears the driver of the white vehicle becomes trapped too but he is then seen running down the road out of harm's way

Terrified passengers in the car with the dashcam can be heard crying as the driver starts reversing away from the danger.
