North Korea Releases Footage of ‘Crime’ That Got American Student Sentenced to 15 Years in Jail

North Korea’s out for blood, and the country has released footage of the ‘crime’ to prove they mean serious business.

An American student was recently sentenced 15 years in prison, which includes hard labor, for stealing propaganda material at a hotel in Pyongyang. The Hermit Kingdom has now released grainy CCTV footage taken from Yanggakdo International Hotel to prove the theft.

Stealing Poster

Otto Warmbler, the 21-year-old University of Virginia student was ‘caught’ stealing a propaganda poster in a still unverified video that translates to ‘Let’s arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-Il patriotism’ in the early hours of the morning. He was apprehended as he was leaving the country and later made to ‘confess’ to the crime, saying he had taken it to bring back home as a trophy.

Pleading for Life

Warmbler was charged with subversion, one of the many crimes with stiff sentences imposed by the rogue state on foreigners as a way to exert diplomatic pressure to their native countries. They later reveal they were only forced to do so under threatening circumstances.
