Mark Burgess, 35, a former soldier who served in Afghanistan, was seen pulling the sharp tool out of his van before storming over to Miss Jones bar in Cardiff and waving it at people outside. Brave onlookers then chased the ex-soldier back to his vehicle and he drove off as they were still hanging on to the door.
A court heard Burgess spent the day at an international rugby match in Cardiff and decided to drive home. But he stopped off at the Miss Jones bar in Whitchurch, Cardiff, for one last drink but was refused at closing time.
Burgess, of Llanrumney, Cardiff, was given a suspended sentence of 18 months after pleading guilty to drink-driving, making threats with an offensive weapon and unlawful wounding.
