The 7.2tonne vehicle is ripped apart as it smashes into the bollard, which remains intact and fully functioning after the collision. Fortunately the crash is a test but it demonstrates how the high-tech piece of equipment, made in Yorkshire, could prevent terror attacks on high profile buildings around the world.

The lorry is seen speeding towards the HT2-Matador 3 sliding bollards, which are designed to stop terror attacks

The demonstration is particularly relevant given last month’s Westminster terror attack when terrorist Khalid Masood drove a car at pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four, before stabbing PC Keith Palmer to death.

The lorry's cab crumpled and was ripped away from the rest of the vehicle as it smashed into the bollard

In the test the lorry is travelling at about 40mph when it crashes into one of the bollards, which can be moved remotely to the desired position. As the truck crashes into the bollard the cab is ripped from the rest of the vehicle and crumples into a pile of rubble.
